Willy Wonka has chosen his successor of the chocolate factory
We celebrated Roald Dahl Day and the 50thanniversary of his most beloved book “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”with a great event for children
September 13, 2014, Sofia. This year a lot of Roald Dahl’s fans celebrated the birthday of the British author with a great event for children at Paradise Center. The event was organized by Enthusiast Publishing House in collaboration with the trade center. Besides the celebration of Roald Dahl Day, we also celebrated the 50thanniversary of his most beloved book “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”. The kids had a lot of fun; there were games, surprises and great amount of chocolate in order to celebrate the Chocolate day as well. Children received a lot of presents including special notebooks and hangers “Do not disturb, I am reading!” with the anniversary logo “50 Years “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” in order to be prepared for their first day of school. Young readers had the chance to feelthe authentic atmosphere of Roald Dahl’s stories. The high point of the event was Mr. Willy Wonka himself accompanied by Veruca Salt. They reproduced a scene from Charlie’s story for the children.
A special guest of the event was the British Deputy Ambassador to Bulgaria Sarah Riley who is also one of Roald Dahl’s biggest fans. “I have been in Bulgaria for 2 weeks already and it has been a pleasant surprise to find out that Roald Dahl’s stories are as popular in Bulgaria as they are in the United Kingdom. “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” is one of my favorite books. I am sure that we all want to see this amazing factory with its river and waterfalls made of chocolate!” said Mrs. Riley.
Our partners from Funny Summer Reading sent their Reading Ambassadors, who shared their favorite excerpts from Roald Dahl’s stories. The Reading Ambassadors were the children’s writer Yulia Spiridonova – Yulka, Spasska Tarandova from Global Libraries – Bulgaria Foundation and the poet and journalist Marin Bodakov. The kids also participated in the reading, which was carried out on the great white chair of BNT (Bulgarian National Television).
For the very first time, young readers had the chance to color Quentin Blake’s illustrations from “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” in the specially created eco-friendly workshops. Children also had the opportunity to participate in the drawing competition “My favorite Roald Dahl character”. The jury that was assessing the drawings consisted of three parents, who picked out the 6 most beautiful drawings. The beginning artists were awarded by Willy Wonka himself. At the end of the event, the master of the chocolate factory chose his successor and handed the golden ticket to him. The golden ticket brought the winner the biggest award – a complete set of books by Roald Dahl and lots of goodies.
The exhibition with all of children’s drawings will be part of Enthusiast’s presentation during Park(ing) Day, which will take place on September 19, 2014. Everyone will be able to have a look at it on Gurko Street, where Enthusiast Publishing House will continue the celebration of the 50th anniversary of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”.
The newest book by the World’s No. 1 Storyteller – “The Enormous Crocodile”, published by Enthusiast Publishing House, was also presented on Roald Dahl Day. This is Roald Dahl’s first story that lays the beginning of the legendary partnership between the British author and Quentin Blake. “The Enormous Crocodile” is the 13th book by Roald Dahl to have been published by Enthusiast Publishing House. The edition goes along with the original covers and, for the first time, with colorful illustrations by Quentin Blake himself. The children were impatient to become acquainted with the new exciting story by the World’s No. 1 Storyteller and some of them even started reading it during the event.
