The BFG film set for 2016 release

Dream Works and Disney have today announced that the forthcoming film adaptation of Roald Dahl's The BFG, directed by Steven Spielberg, is set for July 1, 2016.

The BFG was originally published in 1982 and remains a firm family favourite. The character of The Big Friendly Giant - first introduced in one of Roald Dahl's earlier stories, Danny, the Champion of the World - and his orphan friend, Sophie, have enchanted audiences for more than three decades. In 1989, the story was adapted as an animated TV film.

The forthcoming film adaptation, which was announced on 26th April, is set to add to the celebrations for 2016, when the Roald Dahl Literary Estate will be celebrating 100 years since Roald's birth on 13th September 1916.

Melissa Mathison, who previously worked with Spielberg on ET, is to write the script for The BFG film. Frank Marshall is set to produce, with Michael Siegel and John Madden as executive producers.
